Tackling Manila’s plastic pollution problem

Plastic waste endangers Manila Bay’s mangroves, coastal ecosystems, and nearby communities. The Ocean Cleanup with the DENR, local governments, Energies PH and its Energies River, and communities pursue climate sustainability under the UN 30 Cities Program.

The first Interceptor in the Philippines, Interceptor 028, is now running on Meycauayan’s Caingin River that flows to Manila Bay. Next deployments are in the Pasig River’s “Southern clusters” in Pasay, Las Piñas, Parañaque and Bacoor exiting to Manila Bay; and in the Province of Cebu in the cities of Talisay, Mandaue and Cebu.
