UAE, Philippines forge landmark partnership to rehabilitate Pasig River

The Philippines and the United Arab Emirates (UAE) have signed agreements to rehabilitate the Pasig River and improve governmental competitiveness. First Lady Liza Araneta-Marcos announced the signing of a memorandum of understanding (MOU) between the Philippine government and Clean Rivers Abu Dhabi, a non-profit organization, to restore the Pasig River. Clean Rivers is committing to support initiatives aimed at improving the quality of life for communities and restoring the waterway.
The Pasig River has faced degradation due to urbanization, industrialization, and waste mismanagement. The rehabilitation project aligns with the Philippines’ National Plan of Action for the Prevention, Reduction, and Management of Marine Litter, seeking to reduce marine litter and achieve zero waste in the country’s waters.
